['wəːld 'kʌstəmz ɔːgənaɪ'zeɪʃn, englisch], Abkürzung WCO, französisch Organisation mondiale des douanes [ɔrganiza'sjɔ̃ mɔ̃'djal dɛ dwaːn], Abkürzung OMD, weltweit tätige Organisation zur Vereinfachung und Vereinheitlichung von Zollformalitäten mit (1998) 145 Mitgliedern; gegründet 1952 als Customs Co-operation Council (Rat für die Zusammenarbeit auf dem Gebiet des Zollwesens), heutige Bezeichnung seit 1994; Sitz: Brüssel. Die WCO verwaltet internationale Zollkonventionen und war wesentlich an der Entwicklung des Harmonisierten Systems zur Bezeichnung und Codierung von Waren (HS; Warenverzeichnis), einer in über 80 Ländern und für mehr als 90 % des internationalen Handels verwendeten Zolltarifnomenklatur, beteiligt.
